I’ve just been very busy of late – not to mention poor!
I’m in the middle of moving house among other things right now, so the TR7 has taken a back seat for now. The poor thing has been up on axle stands for nearly a month now. Still, I’ll be cracking on with it in a couple of weeks, then (barring any breakdowns) it’ll be back on the road for the summer.
In the meantime, some random musings:
1. I’ve just got hold of a new 5 speed box to replace the frankly rather tired 4 speeder I have now. I already have the axle, propshaft etc to go with it, so I just need the clutch and a couple of other bits to do the job. The question is, what to do about the engine? It works alright (oil leaks notwithstanding!), but at 70k miles, it’s a little past its best. So should I get another engine as a rebuild project over the summer? It seems silly to go to all the trouble of pulling everything to bits and just leave the engine as is. An engine rebuild was always on the cards in the long-term, so maybe now is the time?
2. The windscreen – having looked at it last weekend, it’s not good news. 🙁 There’s a whole lot of sealer crammed into the joins, especially at the top, and it really does look bodged. I haven’t taken the lower windscreen panel off yet, but I’d be willing to bet it’s gone rotten underneath. I’m just worried that if I take the windscreen out, I won’t be able to get it back in again without some serious welding! I think this is something I need to address sooner rather than later, because if I get a cracked screen, I might be up a certain creek without a paddle.
